If you have suddenly started to see a lot of spiders and cobwebs around your shop, you should not ignore this issue, but should instead arrange for one of your local pest control companies (ideally, one which specialises in spider control) to inspect your premises and tackle any infestation they find inside. Continue reading to find out why.

1. The spiders could be venomous

Lots of spider species are harmless. As such, if you spot a few spiders scuttling around the floors of your shop, you might initially feel that there is no real need to call a spider control specialist. However, the issue with this laidback approach is that unless you are an expert in arachnology, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to correctly identify the species of spider that has invaded your commercial space.

If the species in your premises is, in fact, venomous, and you choose to ignore the infestation, you could end up putting your customers and employees at risk of being bitten by one these spiders and becoming seriously ill as a result of this injury (as the venom of certain spider species can cause things like nerve damage and organ failure)

If this happens, the affected employee or customer could take you to court and attempt to claim compensation for any health issues they developed as a result of being bitten by the venomous spider. If it is shown that you were aware of the infestation and chose not to do anything about it, you may be held liable. This could leave your retail business in serious financial difficulty. Given this, it is best to simply address the spider infestation now, before any of your staff members or customers get hurt.

2. The spiders could deter your customers from visiting your shop

Many people are afraid of spiders; arachnophobia is one of the most common types of phobias. It's important to bear this fact in mind when deciding whether or not to have a pest control professional resolve the spider infestation in your shop.

The reality is that even if the species of spider that has taken up residence in your building is completely harmless, the infestation could still have a negative impact on your business. The sight of a spider scurrying across a shelf or hanging on a cobweb by the door could frighten or disgust your customers, potentially to such an extent that they decide to start shopping somewhere else.

As such, even if you are fairly sure that the spiders are harmless, you should still have the infestation dealt with by a professional.
